Product Description

Faborg is one of our most versatile and popular boots, and it’s not hard to see why. With six lace holes to secure your foot and support your ankle, this unisex boot is worn in offices, around cities, on farms and up mountains. The premium full grain leather wears beautifully over time and develops a rich patina. Our Faborg boots are made to go wherever your adventures take you.

Duckfeet in Denmark have been making shoes by hand for over forty years. Duckfeet are simple and functional, typical of mid-20th century Danish design.
Duckfeet’s foot-formed design allows room for the toes to spread naturally as you walk, and for air to reach the feet. Leather midsoles and uppers breathe and transport moisture away from the foot.

We use leather because it’s strong and long-lasting, but also flexible – allowing the shoe to move with and mould to your individual foot shape.

No two pairs of Duckfeet are exactly alike. Every pair of shoes is treated individually during production, the natural tanning and processing by hand allows for subtle variations in the leather. These variations are highlighted by the particular way you wear them, which imbues each shoe with personality, your story, for your life.
Faborg features premium full grain, double stitched and reinforced 100% leather uppers, insole, and leather midsole. Our non-toxic, vegetable tanned leather is manufactured according to strict environmental standards. It is drum dyed using high quality, non-toxic dyes and specially treated to be water and dirt repellant. Using traditional European Veldtschoen construction the upper is built up by hand over a flat last then the midsole is double stitched to our 100% natural crepe rubber outsole. Every pair of Duckfeet comes into contact with many experienced hands before they are placed in their box and fitted to your feet.

Production and Sustainability

As customers, we are now greatly aware of the conditions our clothes and shoes are produced in, and many of us actively seek out brands that are as transparent and ethical as possible.

We are constantly asked in store about the origin of our leather, where the shoes are made, and how ethical the production is on a whole.

We answer your frequently asked questions below, complete with two videos explaining the production of our leather, and showing the workshop where our shoes are made for you.

Duckfeet shoes are made from cow hide that comes from Germany and Holland. The hides are tanned at Heinen, a fourth-generation tannery in Germany.

The leather we use is ‘Terra Care’ leather, which is leather that has been sustainably and ethically created to abide by a set of social and environmental values. These values form the best standard of leather production available.

Terra Care leather focuses on:
– Raw material
– By-products
– Social responsibility
– Water
– Energy

The livestock are transported for no more than a 2-hour distance to become hides. Generically, the raw materials or hides are then covered in salt for preservation, but Terra Care removed this process as the hides are transported only a short distance to the tannery, reducing the risk of contamination, transport emissions and waste.

The by-products refer to how much of the hides are used; across the world, 75% of hides are wasted and become by-products, however, Terra Care uses nearly 100% of a hide and dramatically reduce waste.

Currently, 75% of the world’s leather production occurs in undeveloped countries and extremely poor working conditions. Heinen operate their family-run tannery in Wegberg, and ensure their staff are continually supported through above-average wages, professional training and career development.

Water usage is significant when tanning leather, which can have devastating effects on the local environment. On average, it takes 450 litres of water to produce a hide of tanned leather; Terracare use less than 100 litres, and treat their used water so it can be recycled back into the production process.

Heinen use technology to then clean and desalinate their used water to return it to the local ecosystem, often cleaner than when they extracted it.

Through using technology, Heinen have reduced the amount of water used per square metre of leather, in some processes by 80%.

While tanneries use on average 40 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of energy to produce just one square metre of leather, Heinen have tested and measured their production to use only a quarter of the average, coming in at 9 KWh.

This incredible standard of leather is used for Duckfeet shoes, and we want to promote the longevity of your shoes, and so encourage resoling your shoes. We offer a resole service to make your leather shoes last longer.

This means your shoes can continue to be worn after resoling, reducing your impact on the environment.

We are often asked where our shoes are made.

Duckfeet shoes have been made in the same factory in Poland for the last 20 years. This factory is the last remaining of what was a traditional Polish shoe making town.

As trade changed with globalisation and manufacturing moved off shore to cheaper factories, the town began to slow their production. Duckfeet shoes have continued to be produced here, because of the knowledge and skill of the craftsman stitching and cutting in the workshop.

From human hands to human feet, Duckfeet shoes are built up over the last, stitched, and boxed up in this workshop.

The staff are experienced and make Duckfeet shoes with full knowledge of how each component of the shoe works for our bodies.

We have visited both Heinen Leather and our Polish workshops, and at both factories we were able to experience the production process. The employees were genuinely interested in their work; they were exceptionally loyal, and felt valued by their work place and employers.

In Poland, the staff played a trick on Simon, by asking him to make them a pair of shoes. With no experience, they helped him operate the machines, but the outcome was what we call, “unsaleable”.

It feels funny to say this, yet we are very proud of a product that has such a history of heritage, care, and value, both for the customers and craftsman.

This transparency is what makes our shoes valuable beyond their function; they are a product of tradition, of innovation, and of people.

You can watch your shoes being made in the Polish workshop here. This video features both the staff we met, and the same processes we were educated in.

A great boot. I can wiggle my toes and it’s like standing barefoot. Awesome. The back of this style is quite stiff and a little hard to begin with but after 2 days wearing is already starting to soften up.

This was my first duckfeet purchase and it will certainly not be the last. I was eyeing duckfeet for a long time until I finally took the plunge and it did not disappoint! Delivery was super quick, the quality of the boot is outstanding, the colour was just what I wanted, a warm reddish brown. I put them on as soon as I receive them and didn’t want to take them off. Loved Simon’s little handwritten note too! Even my husband now wants a pair of duckfeet too! Get them, you won’t regret it!

Gorgeous boots, I have the sheepskin lined ones, so needed something else for different seasons – incredibly comfy, never seem to need to be worn in, just perfect from the get go!

I’ve been Looking at these shoes for a while. When they arrived, my heart skipped a beat! The fit is true to size but a bit wider than the sandals that I own from Duckfeet. The leather is quite stiff in the heel and lower calf, but I’m confident it will mould to my leg in time

I was stoked to find a boot that is so unique, cute, hugely functional and all natural.
These are exceptionally well made and I love the ‘bordo’ colour. I found them to be true to size and with a bit of leather massage, they softened up nicely. Crepe rubber soles are comfortable and quiet, and I love that they are not squishy like most modern footwear. My feet have room to breathe and move the way they should. I’m still breaking them in, but this is a long lasting love relationship with these boots! Thanks Duckfeet!

Great boots. Roomy fit but an insole has sorted that. Going to last me quite a long time!

I just purchased my 4th pair of this boot. Different colours come out of the box at different softness. My slate pair were ready to go immediately. But black needs a little wear in time to soften. But all have got more and more comfy as I wear them. I’ve given up my runners as a walking shoe and now wear Faborg. Wear them to the office and wear them with trackies. Fantastic boot.

Really comfortable boots, it’s like a warm hug for your feet.

Never looked back after getting these shoes. I am set for life with Duckfeet. I wear mine at least once a day and honestly it is such a pleasure putting them on each time. You get more and more familiar with them and they soften to your shape of foot and it’s just unreal. Don’t even bother with other shoes. Duckfeet or bare feet I say!

  39. Diane Penney (verified owner)

This is my second pair as they are so comfy

  40. Peter (verified owner)

Well built boots. Very comfortable even upon first wear. The wide toe box is nice and roomy and leaves space for your toes to flare naturally as you walk. Thick leather is a bit stiff around the ankles and just needs to be worn for a while to break it in. The sole is very comfy to walk in. Very pleased with my purchase.

These boots are amazing. The craftsmanship is beautiful. These are now my fav boots and ill be purchasing more in different colours. I love duckfeet, especially having a wider foot, they are super comfy and timeless. I can’t wait until they have their own softened patina with more wear. 💗faborg love💗

I wasn’t going to review my order till i was convinced they were as great as i have heard.
So It took a few days to wear them in. i wore them briefly with socks, used the leather conditioner ( spend the extra money to get this its worth it) and even used the hammer and towel method on some areas with hesitancy but it did soften the leather. The only parts that were uncomfortable at first were the toe and heel. The above techniques worked quite well but what i found worked the best was newspaper stuffed into the toe area. brilliant.
They are perfect. Im glad i went with my instinct to buy the wool insoles as well as i know in winter these will be awesome.
Im really getting used to these boots as at first they are different to the average shoe in that the toe area. It is a little bit wider than normal shoes. My feet do not feel squished at all. I’m loving these shoes more each time i wear them, to the point that i want another pair. 😀
i don’t have many shoes as I’m quite fussy about shoes, how they feel on my feet and the look they give to my outfits. I know these will last me many many years.
A friend put me onto these, she has a pair of duck feet that have lasted years, i think 8 years. so I’m thrilled to spend the money on something that will last me many years.
$400 seems a lot to pay for shoes, but if you are like me and will wear them a lot, say 3 times a week for 8 years then they average at 30 cents a day!! Probably less, I’m really bad at maths. haha.
